Professional Development and University Contexts

2018 to Present

I have spent the last two summers in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) co-facilitating a research-based professional development program in drama-based instruction as part of an ongoing partnership with UT’s Drama for Schools program and the United States Embassy in Sarajevo. I oversaw a team of four mentor teachers as part of an effort to support the learning development of local educational leaders to continue to support and build networks for colleagues in drama-based instruction in BiH. Additional goals of the project included empowering educators to teach critical thinking skills, a vital task in any country, but particularly in BiH, where nationalist misinformation dominates the media and is also present in schools. Through arts-based instruction, we explored issues of marginalization, justice and equity in US society. Notably, this program brought together over 50 educators from a range of ethnic backgrounds.

In the Summer and Fall of 2018, I co-designed and co-facilitated one 5 day drama-based professional development institute and 3 drama-based learning labs for over a hundred Houston and Austin-based educators participating in the Creative Learning Initiative. Co-wrote grants to fund student learning initiatives in Austin Independent and Round Rock School Districts.
